Accessibility
What we aim for, what we know is not perfect, and who to tell.
We want ChalkMap to work for everyone who lifts, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification or voice control. Our goal is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA.
We have not been certified by anyone, and we have not had an outside audit. We can't promise the site is free of barriers. This page says what we have done, what we know is still hard, and how to reach us. Last reviewed Oct 17, 2026.
What we have done
- Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a "Skip to content" link.
- Text and controls are designed to meet the AA colour contrast ratios. Yes, No and Unverified are marked with different icons and text labels, not colour alone.
- Forms have labels, and status and error messages are announced to screen readers.
- Pages reflow on small screens and when you zoom in, and text can be enlarged without losing content.
- Animations are turned off if your device asks for reduced motion.
- The map has a list of the gyms in view next to it, so you never need the map to find a gym. You can also browse by state and city, with no map.
- We test with automated tools (axe-core and Lighthouse), keyboard-only walkthroughs, zoom, text spacing and high contrast settings in a browser.
What we know is not fully accessible
- The map. It is built on an open source map library and OpenStreetMap tiles. The map picture itself has no text alternative. Pins can be reached with the Tab key, but there can be a lot of them, so there is a link above the map to skip it. Nearby pins can be small targets. The name label that shows when you hover a pin disappears if you move the pointer onto it. The list under the map, the finder, and the state and city pages give the same gyms without the map.
- Photos from gyms. Gym owners send these. We add the gym name as the description, which is often not detailed.
- Checkout. Payment happens on the PR GRIP store, which is run on Shopify. We don't control its accessibility.
- Other sites. We link to each gym's own website and to pages we quote. Those sites are not ours.
- Testing with assistive technology. We have not yet had screen reader users, voice control users or other people with disabilities test the whole site. Some problems only show up that way.
Tell us about a problem
If something on ChalkMap is hard to use, write to hello@chalkmap.app. Say which page you were on, what you were trying to do and what got in the way. If you use assistive technology, say which one. We read every message and aim to reply within a few business days. If you need gym information in another form, ask and we will send it by email.
You can also write to us by post at PRGRIP LLC, 680 S Cache St, Jackson, WY 83001, United States.
If you are not satisfied
If you tell us about a barrier and we can't fix it or don't answer, you can contact the accessibility regulator or ombudsman where you live.
