Chalk friendly gyms: common questions

What is a chalk friendly gym?

A gym that lets lifters use chalk on the lifting floor, and sometimes supplies it. Many commercial gyms ban loose chalk and allow liquid chalk instead, so it is worth checking the exact rule.

How does ChalkMap know a gym allows chalk?

Only from the gym's own website or a page we cite. Each listing shows the quote, the link and the date we checked. See how we verify.

A gym is not on this list. Does that mean it bans chalk?

No. Most gyms never write their chalk rule down, so they show as Unverified. Ask the front desk before you go.

Does Planet Fitness allow chalk?

Planet Fitness does not name chalk in its published rules, but it bans outside fitness equipment and many lifters report clubs turn chalk away. Read what the rules say.

Can I use liquid chalk where block chalk is banned?

Often, but it is each gym's call. Some gyms say so in writing, for example by asking lifters to use liquid chalk instead of dry chalk. Ask before you open the bottle.
