Short answer: probably not, but Planet Fitness does not say "no chalk" in the rules we could find. Here is what is written down and what is not.
What Planet Fitness publishes
On its customer service page, Planet Fitness lists club rules. One of them reads "No outside fitness equipment is permitted". The page does not mention chalk by name.
The same page also describes behavior it calls lunk-like, which the Lunk Alarm is there to discourage. One item on that list is "Dropping weights - Intentionally dropping weights to the ground after the last rep of a set".
You can read both lines, with the link, on our Planet Fitness chalk policy page.
What lifters report
Lifters often say Planet Fitness clubs ask them to put chalk away. That is a report from lifters, not a published rule, and we have no first-party page that settles it. Many Planet Fitness locations are franchised, so one club may handle it differently from the next.
What this means in practice
- Do not assume chalk is fine. Ask the front desk at your club and get a yes or no.
- If the answer is no, ask about liquid chalk separately. Some gyms treat it differently, and some do not.
- If you deadlift heavy, the drop rule matters as much as the chalk rule. Lowering the bar under control is the safe plan there.
If you need chalk
Look for a gym that states its rule in writing. Our list of gyms that say chalk is allowed shows the quote and the source for each one. For tips on the conversation with your own gym, see how to ask your gym about chalk.
